Community Archives from the Ground Up

Speaker: James Newberry is Outreach and Special Projects Curator for the Department of Museums, Archives and Rare Books at Kennesaw State University. He previously worked at the National Archives and the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.

Date/Time: June 18th, 10:00am-12:00pm

Location: Georgia Tech Library

Description:

This workshop will provide participants with best practices and tools for success in cultivating community archives. From relationship building with project partners, individual donors, and memory keepers to organizing large-scale community scanning days with multiple stakeholders, community archival development presents a range of challenges and opportunities. Planning for challenges and maximizing opportunities make collections work both meaningful and useful to your archive, exhibit project, or program. Expect to engage with fellow participants, share experiences, and take home a toolkit for current and future projects.

Parking information: Attendees who register before June 5 will receive a parking pass. Anyone who registers after June 5, will need to pay for parking, which is $2/hour.
