Rosemary Fischer (Mentor #2012-02)

Availability: In a mentoring relationship through December 2013.  Available starting January 2014.

Reason(s) for wanting to be a mentor:

I like working with people new to the field of archives.  I enjoy sharing information.  I would like to be of helpt to those just starting out.  If I have knowledge or skills that may prove useful to someone, I want to share.

Is there any other information about your career or yourself that you would like to share with potential mentees?

My first job is this one as the Archivist for Clayton State University.  I have been here almost eight years.  I won the GHRAB Award for Archival Program Development in October 2005.  I had prepared all the policies and procedures for CSU Archives as well as developed an internship program.  I won the GHRAB Award for Local History Advocacy in 2010 for working with an intern to create a museum fo rthe history of education in Henry County.  My strong suit is working with interns and volunteers.  I am also very experienced in working in a small archives with no or very little budget.

As a mentor, I see myself as:

  • Resource
  • Teacher

I want to help a mentee:

  • Expand their core knowledge of professional issues, archival standards, best practices, etc.
  • Feel more a part of or connected to the professional community and SGA
  • By providing advice related to building and navigating professional relationships (with supervisors, direct reports, co-workers, peers, etc.)
  • By providing assistance with a specific goal (such as project, publication, presentation, grant submission, etc.)
