Gilbert Head (Mentor #2011-07)

Reason(s) for wanting to be a mentor:

If I can answer questions “not in the book” or offer solutions to interactions of staff and clients, those are my strongest areas. I have an extensive background in traditional processing techniques, and have trained several people for work in the Archival workplace, including my present and just-previous bosses.

Is there any other information about your career or yourself that you would like to share with potential mentees?

There are a number of service-oriented techniques and human management skills that I bring to the archival workplace, and I have a proven record as a teacher both of archival methods and patron use of subject area materials.

As a mentor, I see myself as:

  • Advisor/Counselor
  • Resource
  • Sponsor
  • Teacher

I want to help a mentee:

  • Feel more a part of or connected to the professional community and SGA
  • By providing advice related to building and navigating professional relationships (with supervisors, direct reports, co-workers, peers, etc.)
  • By providing assistance with a specific goal (such as a project, publication, presentation, grant submission, etc.)
