Christine de Catanzaro (Mentor #2011-06)

Reason(s) for wanting to be a mentor:

I’d enjoy serving as a mentor because my experience in the past in this role has been positive, and because I’d like to serve SGA in this way. When I was relatively new to the field, I found the informal mentoring I received through SGA to be invaluable. I’d like to offer my help to those starting out in the field because I benefited from that help myself.

Is there any other information about your career or yourself that you would like to share with potential mentees?

I’m a second-career archivist (I used to be a music professor), so I’m familiar with making a transition to archival work from another field. That experience may be useful to second-career mentees.

As a mentor, I see myself as:

  • Advisor/Counselor
  • Advocate
  • Resource

I want to help a mentee:

  • Expand their core knowledge of professional issues, archival standards, best-practices, etc.
  • Feel more a part of or connected to the professional community and SGA
  • By providing advice related to building and navigating professional relationships (with supervisors, direct reports, co-workers, peers, etc.)
  • By providing assistance with a specific goal (such as project, publication, presentation, grant submission, etc.)
