Society of Georgia Archivists Fall Tour

Thursday October 13 is the day for the Fall SGA tour. We have chosen Madison, Georgia.

We will head from Atlanta and make our first stop at the Madison-Morgan Cultural Center. The center is housed in an old school building and in addition to a room that has been made up like a school room from the time, there are three galleries. We will have a history professor show us around the building.

Tequila Express Café will provide box lunches with a wrap, chips, drink and a cookie for $8 and weather permitting, we can eat outside the grounds on the picnic tables. There is a lunch room in the cultural center in case of bad weather.

We are going with three choices for lunch, with a bottle of water too!

1. Veggie wrap - grilled mushrooms, grilled onions, spinach, tomatoes, and grilled zucchini or squash and cheese and maybe with tzatziki sauce

2. Mediterranean Chicken Wrap - Grilled Chicken wrapped in spinach and herb tortilla with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, feta cheese and tzatziki sauce, served with pasta salad.

3. Gyro Wrap - Our combination of beef and lamb grilled and served on pita bread with tzatziki sauce, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions, served with salad.

Next we will head to the Morgan County Archives, which is housed in the old jail beside the courthouse. The county records are kept there, many from the 19th century. The archive is tiny so we may need to break into two groups. The area’s unofficial historian is Marshall Woody Williams and he will show us around.

We’d love to have you join us at 10:30am at the Cultural Center. The address is 434 South Main Street, Madison, GA 30650-1640 and the phone number is (706) 342-4743.
I estimate that it is about an hour and 20 minutes from Atlanta on I-20.

Please RSVP with your sandwich choice by Thursday October 6. sweetapplej30324@gmail.com
