A copy of "Heritage Album Tutor" will be provided. An exhibit of family and organization albums will be available for viewing. Seating is limited.   • Description: With the assistance of a grant from the Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB), the VSU Archives has processed the papers of the institution's first three presidents. These collections include early photographs, minutes, correspondence, reports and realia relating to South Georgia State Normal College and Georgia State Womans College from 1911-1948. The papers of Frank Reade also include family papers and photographs dating to the mid 1800's, including the manuscript of a civil war diary of Frank Smith Robertson, aid to JEB Stuart. One of the most unique parts of the R H Powell collection is the Babylonian Clay Tablets. We have scanned ten cuneiform tablets from what is now Iraq and have mounted the images, along with translations and the history of how Dr. Powell acquired the tablets. These tablets were acquired from Edgar J. Banks, turn of the century archaelogist and adventurer. In addition to the online exhibit of the tablets, we are presenting extensive, web based finding aids to the three collections. Photographs from the Holdings of the National Archives and Records Administration--Southeast Region

  • Description: To celebrate Georgia Archives Week, the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Southeast Region will sponsor a reception and a program highlighting its photographic holdings. The reception will be from 6:00 - 6:30 and the formal program will be from 6:30 - 8:00 on Tuesday evening, October 7, 2003.

    The Southeast Region has custody of thousands of photographs and negatives, primarily from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). The program will focus on these two collections as well as NARA's maritime photographs.

    The Tennessee Valley Authority, one of the premier federal agencies of Franklin D. Roosevelt's New Deal, was created in 1933 to develop the region along the Tennessee River. TVA's work has been richly documented in a unique collection of approximately 779,000 photographs and negatives. Of special interest are photographs of families, homes, towns, and buildings in the area, many of which have vanished.

    The NASA collection includes approximately 385,586 still pictures and negatives from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida and the Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Many document the Saturn program and include photographs of launches from the Kennedy Space Center, astronauts and NASA officials, and hardware.

    The discussion of maritime records will focus on sources relating to World War II photographs held by the National Archives in Washington, D.C. and those held by other institutions.

  • Description: Bank records, ledgers, videos, and digitized photographs will be displayed outside the cafeteria for all Bank employees during 3 lunch periods, including one display from 12 midnight until 2:30 a.m. for night shift workers. Although the archival resources at the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta are not open to the public, after October 1, 2003, the Bank's Monetary Museum will be open to the public, and anyone wishing to view the Bank's archives is encouraged to contact the archivist for an appointment to see these holdings.
