Georgia Archives Week Celebration
October 9-14, 2000

The Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) invites you to join the celebration of Archives Week 2000. Although Archives Week is recognized in many states, Georgia has not had a statewide program in recent years. Starting this year, the Board has initiated an annual statewide celebration.

The purpose of Archives Week is to celebrate the value of Georgia’s historical records, publicize the many ways historical records enrich our lives, and recognize those who maintain our communities’ historical records. On October 4th Governor Barnes signed a proclamation designating October 9-14, 2000 as Georgia Archives Week.

For Archives Week 2000, the theme focuses on stories found in journals and letters – the stories of our lives. The slogan is “Georgia Memories: Stories of the Past for the Future.” GHRAB is publicizing the celebration statewide. A poster will be distributed to historical repositories and public libraries. There will also be newspaper articles and information in newsletters around the state as well as events at various repositories.

Please see our list of Georgia Archives Week 2000 Activities happening across the state. Check this site regularly for updates. For more information contact:
