Society of Georgia ArchivistsPreserving the past and present for the future...

2017 Annual Meeting of the Society of Georgia Archivists

The Society of Georgia Archivists Conference Program Committee proudly presents the theme for the 2017 annual meeting:

Documenting the Present: Archival Conscience and Proactive Archives

Documenting the Present reflects on the particular challenges archives face with contemporary material, and how archivists are preserving our present cultural environment for future generations.  How do we adapt and apply archival ethics and organizational concepts to new and emerging information and communication technology?  As advocates, how do we preserve our own work for future generations?

Documenting the Present is a demanding issue in archives, and one with which we all grapple.  The 2017 Conference Program Committee asks that you share your personal and institutional approaches to current archival procedures, and expound on the archival conscience in the face of changing technology, politics, and cultural values.

The 2017 SGA Program Committee seeks session proposals that highlight innovative research, applied projects, and collective insights which improve our understanding of the following key topics:

-Practical tools and approaches for documenting the present, including contemporary materials in emerging formats, such as social media, and current traditional media practices

-Nimble and creative funding strategies for nontraditional materials

-Negotiating ethics, politics, and the role of archivists as advocates

-Improving representation of under-documented groups via both external and internal inclusion and collaboration

-Navigating the complexities of the private sphere as public record

-Archival responsiveness to changing information and communication technology, including the use of global vendors and reliance on cloud storage.

Proposals are due Friday, August 11th. To submit a proposal, please use this form: https://goo.gl/OAJ4xf
