2004 Pre-Conference Workshop: Practical Enclosures for Archival MaterialsAnnual Meeting Home | Registration | Lodging & Directions | Pre-Conference Workshop | Auction!Practical Enclosures for Archival MaterialsWednesday, November 3, 2004 This workshop is designed to aid archives staff in choosing and constructing appropriate enclosures for the variety of record formats found in archival collections. This full day, hands-on workshop will focus on practical solutions for creating housings made from stable materials that meet preservation standards. Through demonstration and practice, participants will learn to make a wrapper and a portfolio binder, along with other enclosures suited to manuscripts and pamphlets. These simple enclosures can be made in-house with minimal tools and equipment. There will also be discussion about strategies for maximizing supply budgets and tips for interpreting vendor catalogs. Examples and solutions will be provided for housing odd-sized materials, photographic collections, audio-visual materials, and oversize documents. All necessary tools and supplies will be provided as part of the workshop, and participants will take home their completed enclosures, along with handouts, materials samples, and supply catalogs. Participants: The workshop is intended for both novices and seasoned archivists who desire to learn more about how to process collections effectively and efficiently. Instructors: Ann Frellsen is Conservator at Emory University Libraries and Christine Wiseman is the Preservation Services Manager at the Georgia Archives. Registration: Registration deadline is October 18. Registration fee for the workshop: SGA Members $40; Non-SGA Members $60. The registration fee includes a box lunch. Registration is limited, registrants will receive a confirmation letter by email or U.S. mail. No refunds will be issued for cancellations after October 28.
